Candlemas or Imbolc

Candlemas, or Imbolc, signals the traditional beginning of Spring and the stirrings of new life as it marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Even though the majority of us in North America are still in the deep freeze of winter, by February most of us are ready for winter to be over as our thoughts turn to the blossoming of life once again. The original word, Imbolg means "in the belly". All is pregnant and expectant and only barely visible, if at all. It is a celebration of transformation of hidden potential and new life. It is time to dream, like the seeds do, of life to come.
